Price alerts and price history

affilinode records the prices of shops whose prices may be recorded. That powers the price history, price alerts for readers and a notification once a product is back in stock. affilinode never records Amazon prices.

What it does

  • Price history with current, lowest, highest and average price
  • Price alert with a target price and a confirmation e-mail (double opt-in)
  • Checked every hour, exactly one e-mail once the target price is reached
  • Back-in-stock form while no shop has the product
  • Sent by WordPress, the affilinode mail server or your own SMTP server
  • E-mail addresses stay in your WordPress database

Price history

The box shows the current, lowest, highest and average price and a chart with one line per shop, up to five. days sets the period from 7 to 365 days, 90 by default. If there is no price data for the period, only editors see a note.

Price alerts for readers

Readers enter a target price and their e-mail address; the form shows the current best price and suggests 5 % below it. The alert only becomes active once they click the link in the confirmation e-mail, and unconfirmed entries expire after seven days.

Every hour the plugin checks whether the cheapest price including shipping has reached the target. Then exactly one e-mail goes out and the alert is done. Every e-mail has an unsubscribe link. Under “Topic ideas” you can see which prices readers are waiting for, without any e-mail addresses.

Back in stock

While a product is not available from any shop other than Amazon, the box shows a small form instead of a buy button. After confirmation, affilinode checks the offers every hour. As soon as a shop other than Amazon has the product in stock or for pre-order, exactly one e-mail goes out with shop, price and a link to the offer – with your tracking IDs, in the reader’s country.

The feature is off by default and is switched on in the settings under “Price alerts”. Reporting shows sign-ups, confirmations, e-mails and clicks, without any data about readers.

Who sends the e-mails

By default your website sends the e-mails itself via wp_mail, including through an SMTP plugin, and no address goes to affilinode. Alternatively affilinode can send them: through the affilinode mail server, with your own sender domain signed with DKIM, or through your own SMTP server.

Undeliverable addresses and spam complaints go on a block list, and the alerts for that address are switched off. Every e-mail sent by affilinode carries one-click unsubscribe for mail programs.

Good to know

  • Amazon policy 6(y): if your account uses Amazon, price history, price alerts, deals, price signals and back-in-stock notifications are off unless you confirm a written exception from Amazon in the settings.
  • affilinode never records Amazon prices, and Amazon offers never trigger a notification.
  • There is no price history for eBay or for your own product feeds.
  • Each address can have at most 20 open alerts and receive at most 3 confirmation e-mails a day. When affilinode sends, it does so as your processor and keeps the delivery record for up to 40 days; the monthly allowance depends on your plan.
  • Update your privacy policy – the plugin suggests suitable wording that follows the sending method you chose.

Which shops you can use depends on the plan.
