Product search

[affilinode_search] adds a search and filter page to your site. Visitors see results while they type and narrow them down by brand, price, availability and technical data.

In all plans

What it does

  • Results while typing, as cards or rows with pagination
  • Filters with counts: brand, price range, availability, data sheet fields
  • The search state lives in the address, so filtered pages can be shared
  • On phones the filters open in their own dialog
  • Works as a normal form without JavaScript

Setting up the filters

type picks the product type including its subtypes; leave it empty to search all your products. facets decides which filters appear and in which order: brand, price, availability and fields from the technical data. Choice and yes/no fields become checkboxes with counts, numeric fields become from–to ranges.

With scope="site" the box only searches products this website already uses. per_page, view and columns control how the results look.

How the filters combine

Several values within one filter are combined with “or”, different filters with “and”. The counts next to each value already take the other filters into account, and the number of results is announced to screen readers.

The search state is part of the address, so filtered pages can be shared and bookmarked. Use one search per page.

For editors

Below the search, logged-in editors see “Save as comparison table”: the link carries the current filters into the dashboard, where they become a table that updates itself every hour. Clicks count as box type “Product search” in your reports.

Examples

Cordless drills with filters for brand, price, availability and voltage.

Only smartphones this website already uses.

Good to know

  • The price filter and sorting only use current prices – Amazon prices at most 24 hours old; eBay offers from the eBay API don’t count. There is no sorting by saving, as that would be a price signal for Amazon.
  • Visitors’ search terms and filters go to the affilinode API via your server – without IP addresses or cookies.
  • On AMP pages the search is a form that reloads the page with the results; the filters are always open there.
